Host the Yatra, get aware and Join Energy Swaraj Movement
Energy Swaraj Yatra, led by Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki brings in awareness about climate change through talks, seminars, meetings and training programs, in various Organizations (academic and non-academic) and encouraging them to take actions.
The Energy Swaraj Yatra, a national journey in a solar-powered bus, is the core of the Energy Swaraj Movement, aiming to unite climate change mitigation efforts. Starting in November 2020 and continuing until December 2030, this 11-year initiative seeks to create Energy Swaraj as a public movement. With only 4-5 years to limit global warming to 1.5°C, as noted by the IPCC, urgent action is needed. The Yatra will travel across India, raising awareness about energy use and its impact on climate, while promoting measurable shifts in energy habits toward a 100% solar-powered lifestyle.
The Energy Swaraj Yatra was launched by Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, on November 26, 2020. Dr. Chetan Singh Solanki, an IIT Bombay professor and Founder of the Energy Swaraj Foundation, has pledged to live in a solar-powered bus until 2030, traveling across the country to promote energy self-sufficiency. This solar bus, which serves as Dr. Solanki’s mobile home, is equipped for daily living, training, and demonstration, with 3.2 kW solar panels, 6 kWh battery storage, and a 3 kVA inverter powering all its facilities. While the bus engine uses diesel, the setup shows that homes or buildings can operate entirely on solar power.
Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki is a Professor at the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay. He is also Founder of Energy Swaraj Foundation and Brand Ambassador of Solar Energy for Govt. of MP in India. He is deeply worried by climate change and decided to take the 11 years long Energy Swaraj Yatra through a solar bus. He decided to live in a solar bus, without going home for 11 long years. He is travelling all over country, visiting various organizations, meeting various govt. and corporate officials, teachers, students, talking and making them climate and energy conscious.
